Trying to make a 1950 Ford drivable we have hand controls for gas/brake. The problem is the clutch, any ideas?

My grandpa lost use of his legs in 2005. He restored a 1950 Ford in 1997 and absolutly loves it. He is determined to drive it again. He has tried pullies and something as simple as a stick to operate the clutch. I have seen electronic and microchip clutches on the internet, but this is a 1950 Ford. I believe the solution is going to have to be mechanical. Someone somewhere has to have had this same problem and came up with something. I am looking for advice from them.Trying to make a 1950 Ford drivable we have hand controls for gas/brake. The problem is the clutch, any ideas?
The easiest solution is probably to put in an automatic trans.Trying to make a 1950 Ford drivable we have hand controls for gas/brake. The problem is the clutch, any ideas?
I would be thinking about a hydrolic unit that uses a motorcycle type grip mounted to the shift lever itself...for safety reasons using one hand to clutch and shift would seem best.
You need to think safety to, not only for him but other people. I agree an automatic transmission would be the a good fix for this. Now if he wants a stick the go with the electric clutches, If he has good upper body strength you could go to a mechanical clutch. There are tons of variations on the web. Now something I was thinking about is go motorcycle style hydraulic clutch. You may have to modify some to allow for leverage at the clutch. Alot of sand rails have hydraulic clutches to so look into something like that. I think its great he is still interested in his classic. Good Luck
I found by drilling a hole into the side of the clutch pedal and attaching a piece of flat stock to the side with a grade 8 bolt and adjusting the length to your standards Attach a grip handle at the top of the flat stock, something like a motorcycle or bicycle handle,so you are able to manually push in the clutch Good luck
