In your opinion, is it wise to hand over control of 5 U.S. ports to a company from the United Arab Emirates?

No, because Bin Laden is from there and you just need a handful of terrorists to cause a big problem. In your opinion, is it wise to hand over control of 5 U.S. ports to a company from the United Arab Emirates?
Bin Laden is not from UAE any more than you are. He has connections there but then he has connections in every country.

Rest asure, if Bush or someone high up in the food chain didn't financially benefit from this move, it would not have happend.

Are you familiar with Carlyle Group?

Bin Ladin is originally Saudi Arabian and Saudi Arabia is a totally different country than UAE and even if it were Saudi Arabia just because Bin Ladin is originally from there that doesn't make the whole country of Saudi Arabia a terrorist country!!!
Not only is it not wise, it would be traitorous to do it.
I work in the US maritime industry. There is a lot of concern over this deal, but personally, I think it's unjustified. The company that manages a port is not greatly involved in port security. The Coast Guard, as part of the DHS, is the responsible agency.

Some of the financing for the terrorists who attacked the US on 9/11/01 was handled at financial institutions in Dubai. But in the balance, Dubai's rulers have proved to be reliable allies in the fight against terrorism. If there is any concrete proof that the government of Dubai is trying to pull the wool over our eyes, then I would vehemently oppose this deal. But there is no proof.

(P.S. No, I'm not a registered Republican, and I don't say these things just to quack out the party line.)
I think it is O.K. This foreign company would be bound by all American laws and oversight, and I do not think this takeover would pose a threat to our society. In fact, I think it could strengthen it by having more international activity taking place within our country - making for better trade and relationships to form as a result.

Here is the latest article on the matter...
no.
Look at it this way: the 9-11 attacks took place on an American airline, not UAE. Terrorism may or may not succeed no matter who's guarding the entrance. If we refuse to allow this deal to take place, then we are as racist and xenophobic as the insurgents who are trying to keep US out of THEIR land. The objections we all instinctively raise are not based on anything other than the nationality of Dubai's owners. No matter who owns the ports, they exist on our soil, guarded by our guns. Protecting them is still our responsibility.
