Does Obama support gun control or does he favor allowing law abiding citizens owning hand guns?

I read where he has consitently voted in FAVOR of gun control as a state senator and came out in favor of DC's handgun ban. Is this true?

The second amendment is not very wide in what it protects. It is there for a reason, so the militia has weapons at hand, and personnel at hand for when they are needed, either against the government or from external or internal attack.


The right to keep arms assures the militia guns, and the right to bear arms assures the right to have personnel. The founders made this quite clear.


So what is protected? Someone can have a gun, they are allowed to own it, buy it or sell it. That is basically the right to keep arms. (there is also the possibilty that training with the gun is also protected, but that depends on how you look at it). The right to bear arms does not protect hunting, carry and conceal, the movement of guns except when in relation with the well regulated militia. Even then, you can be in the militia and prevented from actually using arms, only when the orders are there, can you do so.


What is gun control? Banning criminals after due process and the insane from having guns is gun control, are you tell me that most americans don't support this? There are other measures that are gun control, the NRA supports carry and conceal permits, having safety checks and controlling dealers is very important. Many guns in the hands of criminals come from legal dealers, do you want that to happen?


Gun control is not just the total banning of guns.
The problem is not with law abiding citizens owning handguns. The problem is with criminals who use handguns to commit crimes. The criminals did not purchase their guns legally, don't have gun permits, and are far from law abiding. Gun control is supposed to limit the criminal's access to weapons which I think everyone supports. No one supports [and I mean no one] taking guns away from ';law abiding citizens'; and let's face it, ';law abiding citizens'; aren't the ones committing crime.
Osama, oops, I mean Obama does not know what he is talking about when it comes to guns. He has always wanted strict gun laws which would never work. He has voted to make handguns illegal, voted to make common hunting ammunition illegal on the grounds that it is ';armor piercing';, voted to outlaw concealed carrying of a firearm. The list goes on and on these are just some high points.


The only peopel who obey gun laws are not the ones who cause the problems. The ones that do cause the problems with guns are not going to go turn in their gun now because Obama passed a law.


I just pray to God that Obama is not elected president otherwise this country is going to go downhill fast!!!!!
I'm not sure if he supports it or not. In Chicago his hometown, hand guns were banned 28 years ago. Crime in Chicago has skyrocketed. He did say he will take away guns from '; the bad guys';. That's working out real well. We pretty much all know the so called ';bad guys'; don't get them legally anyway.


I live just outside the Chicago city limits, and I'm glad I do, because I love my guns, and I know the ';bad guys'; are not sure if I have a gun or not.
Looking at the variety of answers here I can see the people who favor restricting semi-auto's and full auto's still don't understand what a RIGHT is, and what SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED means.


The argument '; Nobody needs to hunt with an AK47, is as stupid as it is childish. For those of you who are ignorant of firearms and ballistics, here's a little lesson. The AK47 uses a 7.62mm by 39mm cartridge. it is ballistically equivalent to the winchester .30-30 cartridge, a round that has been used for over 100 years to hunt deer. The only difference in the two weapons are the manner in which they operate.


Put another way, how would you feel if the government, upset at the number of fatalities on our nations highways ( which are 10 times greater than ALL the firearm related deaths combined ) passed a law that stated you were only allowed to own 1 car, and it's capacity for speed could not exceed 60 miles per hour. All automobiles had to have ignition locks that required a breathalyzer to actuate, and nobody ever convicted of a speeding ticket could own or operate a motor vehicle. I mean after all, more people are killed on our nations highways each year by drunk drivers and excessive speed than guns kill in 3 years.


I have reviewed Obama's voting record and the ONLY time I have ever seen him vote in favor of gun owners was to prevent law enforcement from disarming law abiding citizens during national emergencies.


Other than that one incident, his record has been for more and more control and restrictions on law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
Marcia class III automatics have been illegal as of 1936, Obama has nothing to do with it.





More people were killed last month in Chicago via criminals than in Iraq, Chicago is a model gun free city, that Obama help make.





The real reason Obama and the left want guns banned is:
