No doubt about it, its a good thing. But not all British troops will be pulling out. Assistance is still going to be needed for a long time.How awesome is it that the British army has handed control of Basra over to the Iraqi Army?
It would be a great thing if it weren't that Al-Quaida is now doing their best to undo everything that had been accomplished in that region. I hope and pray the Iraqi soldiers can hold it together on their own. It would be great to know that we were no longer needed over there to maintain stability.
It is not the first time that British army handed over control of Iraq to Iraqi people.
Whether or not it's a ';good'; thing remains to be seen, in how the Iraqi Army and the Iraqi government manage governorship of that province. It's a strategically-important area for many reasons, and could be a focal point for trouble if the enemy wished to start problems there. Whether you think it's a ';good'; thing now or not depends more on your political opinions than anything else.
Either way, the Brits are and have always been reliable, smart, and capable allies. I am proud to consider them my brothers.
